Communication

We use a variety of methods to inform you about what is happening at nursery and to update you on your child’s progress.  These include:

  • Communication Books

  • Phone calls

  • Pictures

  • Letters

  • Parent workshops/coffee mornings

… in addition to regular communication from Nursery School.

Attendance

Children attend nursery five sessions per week. It is important for their learning and progress that they attend all five sessions. There are 16 places available in the SSC. Eight children attend the morning sessions, and eight attend the afternoon sessions.

  • Morning sessions are from 9am – 12pm

  • Afternoon sessions are from 1pm – 4pm

Transition to school

Either before, or at the time of referral to the SSC, your child may be referred for an Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment to determine whether they will need extra support in school. This may lead to an assessment by an Educational Psychologist and/or other professionals.

When children leave the SSC at the end of the summer term to go to school, they transfer to either their allocated primary/ first school, a mainstream SSC, or a school for children with wider learning needs. School options will be discussed after your child starts in the SSC. If required, the SLT will visit your child’s school during the first half-term to help with the settling process and discuss targets with staff.
